On The Window Seat With Louise Reynolds!

Destiny Romance author, Louise Reynolds joins me in Ireland today for a nip of baileys and a nice chat! Welcome Louise!

Now, as always, I'll get you to start by telling us five things about yourself as a person and as a writer?

Contemporary romance author with a passion for cooking, reading and fine wine. Outgoing and just a little crazy.

The best are a little different if you ask me hehe.
So when did you first start writing? Was it just an unbridled urge to write or had it been a matter of ‘it’s now or never’?

I started in 2006 when I did a CAE writing course and met the wonderful Anne Gracie. It was pretty much a feeling of ‘now’s exactly the right time’.

Is there a reason as to why you write? And what’s your favourite part about being a writer?

I’m not a driven writer. But I do have stories in my head that I like to see on the page. It’s the challenge of seeing how well I can capture those characters. And of course the satisfaction of having books out there J

What inspires you? The novels you read? Other authors? Life itself?

Life inspires me most. The people I’ve met, experiences I’ve had myself. It’s amazing how they all come together in a story; a strand from here, a strand from there.

The perfect ingredients for a believable character.
When did your writing dream become a published reality?

I got the call in September 2012 and my first book, Her Italian Aristocrat, was published by Destiny Romance in November 2012.

I know the one! How fantastic for you :)
What was the hardest part of the publishing process for you?

It wasn’t so much the publishing side. But I had to get my website and social media together in a hurry. I’d heard people say, get it all lined up before publication but did I listen?

Haha, the cyberworld can be challenging at times. Especially when it comes to getting your name out there and noticed. :)
Do you have any inspirational words for aspiring writers?

Know why you’re doing it, what you want out of it. Don’t measure yourself against other writers.

Wise words :)
Can you pitch you current/upcoming release to us in ten words or less?

City/outback reunion story.

Who is your favourite character in Outback Bride?

It would have to be Jake, my hero. He’s a man who’s had it all and turned his back on the bright lights to return to a life he’s learned to love in the Outback. I’m still crushing on him.

Legal star Lara Burke has worked hard to escape her country past and is finally on the way to being made a partner at her city law firm. At the worst possible time, her former flame Jake Forester arrives, bringing tragic news from home.
Forced to return to her family property, Jindaburra, Lara must confront her past at the home she loved and lost. But big-sky country and bittersweet memories are not all that await her at Jindaburra.
As Lara's past and present collide, old passions are rekindled and new connections are formed. And as her visit comes to an end, how will Lara choose between the city life she's grown to love, and the life she left behind?

So what’s next for Louise Reynolds?

Right now I’m writing a story that starts in the Outback and then heads to the UK. It’s a light, contemporary romance.

Ooo! Across the ocean like me. I'm backtracking home at the moment with my stories. Can't wait to hear more, Louise! :)
So, have you kissed the Blarney Stone? If you haven’t does the thought of dangling over the edge of a medieval castle to kiss a saliva (and good knows what else) covered stone make your head spin?

I have indeed. As a woman whose father has 52 first cousins and more Irish in her than a bottle of Baileys, I consider it essential on a trip to Ireland.

Couldn't agree more!
If you were about to encounter the rakish charms of an Irishman, what would you arm yourself with?

I’m not sure that I’d bother arming up. I’m his J

Well, that's the end of our chat for today. It's been a pleasure sharing this chat over a nip of baileys :) I hope my readers have enjoyed meeting Louise. If you'd like to get to know her better, you can find her at the following places:

A Dog Named Jack!

I've had quite some luck when it comes to running into my characters as you may have read in 'My Secret Life with Rachael Johns'. I've met H.A.M. the sassy black cat, a few of my horsie creations and even some of my loveable secondary character like, Jen the stablehand. And I thought that would be my last encounter of a fictional-become-real kind. But just recently I found another.

Meet Nitro! A green-eyed Kelpie. And the real-life embodiment of my fictional Kelpie, Jack. Isn't he adorable? I've already warned his owners that if he goes missing, they'd be best to look at my house first. :P

Nitro isn't the spitting image of my Jack. Whilst he is a brown and tan Kelpie, Jack was black and tan. But I couldn't get past those eyes! I had to share my findings with the fans of What Happens in Ireland.

And I also want to share an excerpt where Jack the Kelpie plays a part:

"

Resting her forehead on her knees, Kate fought to regain her composure. It wasn’t until she felt something wet against her toe that she looked up.
Crouched at her feet was a black and tan kelpie pup, its startling green eyes trained on her expectantly. Reaching out a hand, Kate scratched the dog behind its velvety ear, a sad smile forcing the corners of her lips up. The pup leaned into her touch, its tongue flopping out, the brush of his breath warm against her skin.
She hadn’t intended to buy the pup. It sort of just happened.
The second she’d seen the green-eyed pup looking up at her from amongst the litter, her chest had swelled. It hadn’t taken her long to realize she wasn’t leaving the house without it.
And so she’d bought ‘Jack’.
She didn’t know what had possessed her to call the frisky pup ‘Jack’. It wasn’t like she needed a reminder of the man. But, she had. Maybe it’d been the pup’s playful nature. Or perhaps its vivid green eyes. She didn’t know and didn’t care.

"

Well, I hope my readers have enjoyed my little snippet and my tale. :) Happy reading!

On The Window Seat with Harper A. Brooks

Well, another week has gone by and I have a new guest sharing my window seat today. Harper A. Brooks is looking out over the O'Reilly property with me today! Welcome Harper!

So why don't you tell us a little about yourself, Harper?

Well, I'm still in college technically. I have a semester of student teaching to do in the fall. During a session of writer's block, I taught myself how to crochet. I do that a lot now. People call me a grandma, but I love it! His Haven is my first published novel, but I have many others completed and just waiting for the next step. I love the Victorian and Regency eras. I'm a big Jane Austen fan, and sometimes I believe I was born in the wrong time period!
Me too! Love Austen. And I love historicals and Regencies. :)

When did you first start writing? Was it just an unbridled urge to write or had it been a matter of ‘it’s now or never’?

I have always been creating fantastical worlds of magic and mystery. I was never a big “dolls” or “house” playing kind of kid. I made characters and acted out stories—most of the time about magical beings like witches and vampires. I want to say I really started writing at the age of twelve. Then is when it really consumed my life. I wrote a lot about books I was reading, but I liked to make my own characters. Those characters gained a life on their own. I was hooked.

Is there a reason as to why you write? And what’s your favourite part about being a writer?

Honestly, I love the surprises that come with writing. I'll write something and put it away for some time, and when I go back to it, I can't believe I wrote it. It amazes me. When I read my work as a reader and not the writer, I can't believe that I created something so wonderful.

It's mind-blowing isn't it! It's like someone else wrote it when you return to a work after so long.

So what inspires you, Harper? The novels you read? Other authors? Life itself?

Everything inspires me—nature, music, putting away the dishes, believe it or not. But what really helps when I'm stuck is just talking about writing. If I have someone who is willing to listen and can talk to about what I have written so far, it makes me want to keep going. I even like bouncing ideas back and forth with other writers. Helping other people with their stories inspires me with my writing.
I know exactly what you mean. My poor twin sister suffers when I have the block. I make her ears bleed until I've awakened my muse :P

When did your writing dream become a published reality?

On April Fool's Day, I got the email from Secret Cravings Publishing saying that they had excepted His Haven for publishing. At first I thought it was a joke. Then I started crying and laughing at the same time. It was quite a sight!
Hahaha! What a day to send a contract! Bet you were pinching yourself.

What was the hardest part of the publishing process for you?

I would say the WAITING. Oh my goodness, the waiting is torture. I found out how impatient I really am through the publishing process. I'm a very organized person, and I like to know all my information up front, so when I had to wait for the cover, the edits, the release date, I was itching!

Do you have any inspirational words for aspiring writers?

Yes. NEVER GIVE UP. And never think you need to change your writing style because of what other people think. I almost made that mistake. A publisher told me I had to rewrite my entire novel because it was different. It was a great story, great characters, they loved everything, but they wouldn't publish it because it wasn't “what was selling now.” I believe someone should never be punished for originality. Aspiring writers should be true to themselves. There is a publisher out there that will respect their style, and there are readers who will love their writing.
Very wise words. :)

Can you pitch you current/upcoming release to us in ten words or less?

His Haven—expect the unexpected, twists, and complex, real characters.

Who is your favourite character in His Haven?

My favorite character in His Haven would have to be Lysander. He is a secondary character, and the hero, Avrum's, closest friend. He holds a lot of secrets and pain inside because he believes he has to. Not much is explained about him in His Haven, but I guess I like him because I do know his background and because of the mystery surrounding him. He will be the hero of the next book in the Redemption Series, so all his secrets will be known then.
Now, I've never heard of a secondary character being bested by the hero haha. I'm sure after I read His Haven, I'll be interested in Lysander's secrets too.

What’s next for Harper A. Brooks?

What's next for me? Writing the next book in the series, of course! I'll even share the title with you—Patterns in the Ivy. I've also been challenging myself and writing a shape-shifter novella at the same time. So, yes, I'm very busy!

If you had to write a warning to your readers about your novel, what would you say?

Warning: This novel contains Victorian vampires. If pulses continue to race after the completion of the novel, please consult a physician because this can lead to more serious complications, such as sexy hallucinations, need to take cold showers, and a raised temperature.
Hehe, sounds great!

Now, this author runs on coffee and the occasional nip of whiskey. What refuel your writerly engines?

Absolutely coffee. I am addicted, and there is no hope for me to ever quit. And the Italian dish, chicken francaise, helps too. Yum! That's my favorite.

Now, for all writers, there’s something magical about creating a novel. What is your favourite part of creating a novel? Are you a Happily-Ever-After kind of writer, a cheeky black moment maker, or a first-sight-and-first-kiss kind of writer?

I have two. One would be the creation of a character. I want to make my characters as believable as possible. I love making their back stories complicated and realistic. I want my readers to connect with them. The second would be creating an ending that is unexpected, leaves readers guessing, and is also bittersweet. I've never been a big “Happily Ever After” fan, but life isn't like that. To me, it's not believable. Even though my novels have magical elements in them, they can still be realistic.

Now, I’ve had some strange encounters where I’ve met my characters in real life. After I’d created them! Has this ever happened to you?

Something like this did happen to me actually, but it was when I was writing my historical romance novel that is still a WIP. I was working at a bakery at the time, and I was paying a customer out. When I swiped his credit card, his last name popped up on the computer screen. His last name was DeMonté. That is my character's last name. Not only that, but it is a last name that I completely made up! I put two French last names together to create this one, and apparently it was real!
Haha! I love these moments!

Thanks so much, Harper for joining me today. Hope you've enjoyed our chat and find the landscape of Ireland inspiring. :) Best of luck with your novel. I can't wait to read it!

Now about the novel!

Handsome and diligent Avrum Brenin should have died in the fire with his mother and older brother. Instead, he is saved by the powerful and wealthy immortal, Lord Henri. Placed under his care, Avrum shares in his world of endless splendors. He must do one thing in return—look after Haven, a human and Lord Henri's newest rescue.

The simple task proves to be more complicated than it seems. Haven is disobedient, ungrateful, and hostile, yet she is beautiful and mystifying at the same time. One night, when Avrum stumbles across Haven barely clothed and bound at the wrists, the world he has trusted in unravels before his eyes. He soon discovers that no one—from Lord Henri and Haven to his closest friend, Lysander--are who they seem to be.

Now faced with the truth, will Avrum choose to surrender to the man who rescued him, or will he have the courage to save the woman who captivated him?

On The Window Seat with Tabitha Shay

Well, it's another sunny weekend. And here on the window seat is Tabitha Shay. Tabitha is a fellow SCP author and I'm very excited to have her on the blog today. Welcome!

Good Morning, Readers,
Before we get started, just let me say, “Thank You” for your invitation to be here today. I’m paranormal romance author, Tabitha Shay. Please leave comments and email addy. I’ll be giving away and E-copy of Send Him an Angel to some lucky winner. Good luck!
Excellent. I hear readers love a giveaway hehe :)

Now first things first, tell us five things about yourself as a person and as a writer (genre, hobbies, personality, are you a little on the quirky side?)
I always have dozens of stories swirling in my head. I always three –four WIPs in progress. Some of my readers call me, “Twisted” in the nicest way. I love collecting coins and have sold several sets, then I start over. I sometimes have to make myself sit down and write. Not that I don’t love writing, I do, but I procrastinate big time…*giggles*
3-4! How do you ever keep track. Only yesterday I encountered the name of one hero in the place of his brother's!

So when did you first start writing?
I was fifteen when I penned my first complete story. I haven’t stopped since. It was totally unbridled. Was it just an unbridled urge to write or had it been a matter of ‘it’s now or never’?

Is there a reason as to why you write?
I can’t help myself. The ideas never stop coming.

And what’s your favorite part about being a writer?
Getting that first line hook on paper, then watching the story unfold.
 It is exciting isn't it.

So what inspires you? The novels you read? Other authors? Life itself?
A bit of all three, plus songs. Songs are a big inspiration.
Can't go wrong with a writing playlist! It's like a movie. You have to set the mood. :)

Tell us a little about your current WIP.
Witch’s Touch is book six in the Winslow Witches of Salem Series. It’s Nyra and Dym’s tale of a woman terrified of dying and her hero is the Prince of Death come to claim her soul.
I love witch stories!

So obviously this isn't the first novel you have ever written?
No. I now have 11books published.

Now, I find that for aspiring writers, when the tough gets going, it can be hard for some to keep on traveling the rocky road to publication. What keeps you motivated?
So many ideas that just won’t stop nagging to be told.
The Muse can be unrelenting hehe.

Plotter or pantser?
Mostly panster. But I do some plotting these days.

Now, I think of my muse as some being. An alter ego of sorts. Tell us about your muse.
My muse, hmm, not sure about it. Is it that little creature that wakes me up in the middle of the night ordering me to get up and write?
Are they male or female?
One of each…*giggles*
Can you describe three of their personality traits?
Nosy, stubborn, and bossy.
Have you kissed the Blarney Stone? If you haven’t does the thought of dangling over the edge of a medieval castle to kiss a saliva (and good knows what else) covered stone make your head spin?
I haven’t kissed the Blarney Stone. Don’t think I want to. I’m not comfortable with heights.

Are you reading a novel right now?
Actually I’m reading one of my own books titled Wild.

If you were about to encounter the rakish charms of an Irishman, what would you arm yourself with?
Nothing! Come and get me. *giggles*
If you had to write a warning to your readers about your novel, what would you say?
“Warning: This novel contains a hot gambler and sexy Native Americans. Read at your own risk!”
Now, this author runs on coffee and the occasional jug of whiskey. What refuels your writerly engines?
Lots of coffee and the occasional pint of Applejack Moonshine…*giggles*

Now for a question to appeal to our readers visually, but which Hollywood star would you choose to play your hero and heroine?
Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins.

Fabulous. Thank you so much Tabitha for joining me today. I've had fun learning more about you and wish you all the best if your witchy series :)
Readers, if you would like to learn more about Tabitha, you can visit her website: http://www.tabithashay.com

And as for Tabitha's giveaway, here's a little about Send Him an Angel!
In the Badlands of the Dakota Territory, a war rages between good and evil, between angels and Satan’s three sons…
Earth Angel —Elizabeth Bonner’s plans for her wedding dissolve when she discovers her fiancé cheating. To escape the pain and humiliation, she flees to the rowdy mining town of Deadwood Gulch where one person stands between her and hell—Gabriel King.
Dark Angel —Gabriel is feared by most, but he meets his match with Elizabeth. 1876, Dakota Territory is no place for a lady whose innocence is tempting as sin. Toss in a couple of trouble-making cherubs, and the Old West will never be the same.
Elizabeth and Gabriel —more than one war is brewing in the Black Hills…

And something  little different this week, Tabitha has an excerpt to share:
Inside her gloves, her fingers itched and felt moist. She stilled when she saw him track her nervous habit of rubbing her hands down the sides of her gown.
He lifted his head and their gazes locked. His lips curved with a knowing smile. “Miss Bonner, we haven’t been properly introduced. I’m Gabriel King, Gabe if you like.”
She didn’t like. She refused to be on friendly terms with him.
“I hope my presence here doesn’t bother you.” His eyes said he couldn’t care less if he bothered her or not.
Her hackles raised another notch. “You don’t bother me at all,” she replied, refusing to tone down the tartness in her voice. She was ready for a fight and this man was the one she was ready to battle. “I know who you are, and I know what you want.”
Fire shimmered in his eyes. The color changed swiftly from pale blue to fierce cobalt. Elizabeth blinked twice to be certain it wasn’t her imagination. He slid his hot gaze over her, pausing on her mouth, then casually drifted to her breasts to linger for an uncomfortable amount of time.
He lifted a most arrogant brow, then eyed the toes of her emerald-green silk slippers that flirted from beneath the hem of her long skirt. A smile teased his lips, as if he thought her shoes a bit whimsical. Taking his time, he slid his gaze back up, a long, slow journey that had her literally squirming inside. There wasn’t an inch of her body his eyes didn’t touch or dwell on.
“No, I don’t think you do know what I want,” he said with a lazy drawl. “Not…yet.”

The Charming Hero Blog Hop - Meet Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome

Well, everyone loves a hero. And personally, I like 'em charming. Admittedly, I think it's the charm that really ropes in my heart. You get your Average-Joes every now and then in romance and yet, these men still make your heart race and your head spin as they fight for a heroines.

Now admitted, my Jack isn't only a silver-tongued devil, but easy on the eyes too. But either way, today, I'm focusing on his legendary Irish charm and hope I might be able to give those who haven't met him already, a little taste of Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome.

By the way, if you are eager to meet more handsome devils, click on the photo above to join the event on facebook :)

Now, to meet my Irish devil.

- What your hero’s name and where does he come from?
Jack O'Reilly. Also known as 'Irish', 'Oh God' and 'Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome'. Jack lives in Killarney, Ireland.

- What’s your charming hero’s profession?
Jack is a horse breeder. Him and his brother breed some of Ireland's finest thoroughbreds.

- Now, there’s a lot about our heroes that sets all women in a flutter. What’s your hero’s greatest weapon when it comes to seduction?
Personally, I think it's his Irish charm. Jack simply has a way with women. A charismatic eloquence that can even get past a shrews iron façade.

 - If your hero resembled one or more celebrities, who would they be?
Hmm, I'm going to say a cross between Colin Farrell and Ryan Gosling (who is our eye-candy on the blog hop banner hehe).

- Apart from being incredible charming, how would you describe your hero’s personality?
Jack dedicated. He's family orientated. Over-all laid back. And when he is met with a challenge, he meets it head on. Or in the case of the challenge of winning Kate's heart, shirtless hehe.

 - Does your hero have a favourite saying or motto?
Hmm, if Jack had one, it would definitely be: "It's better to be a fool in love, than a fool who let a woman go."
 - Post a scene of ten lines or less that captures your hero using his charm to win over both our readers and heroine.

"

Apparently not as perplexed by Kate’s confession as she was, Jack grinned, the expression reaching his eyes. Kate’s stomach did a backflip and her shame vanished.

There was no mortal competition for his rakish grins.

“You have a talent, you know, Jack.”

“And what talent is that?” he asked, his arms loosening around her. Reaching up, he brushed her unruly hair out of her face.

“Robbing me of my breath.”

Jack shrugged. “Well, I did notice that ye do not breathe very much when I kiss ye.”

She laughed. “I can’t deny it.”

“Oh, ye can,” he corrected. “But yer eyes can’t.”

"

So there you have it! My charming Irishman. :) I hope you've enjoyed meeting Jack and I do recommend you check out his romance buddies on the blog hop.

On the Window Seat with Tamsin Baker

Today, I have erotic romance author, Tamsin Baker joining me on the window seat. It's a rainy day in Ireland, but not to worry, only means we get to curl up in from of the fire with a good book :)

Welcome Tamsin!

So first things first, when did you first start writing, Tamsin? Was it just an unbridled urge to write or had it been a matter of ‘it’s now or never’?
I wrote on and off for years, but my unquenchable need only took off about 10 months ago. For me, it makes me happy, and I don’t want to ever do without it again.

Is there a reason as to why you write? And what’s your favourite part about being a writer?
I write because it keeps me sane and it makes me happy. My favourite part? Hmmm the ability to create amazing people and enjoy them so much.

(It's awesome creating the people you've always wanted to meet, isn't it? :) And I agree on your reasoning. Writing = Sanity :p)

What inspires you? The novels you read? Other authors? Life itself?
I just like people, and love to create relationships. Other authors are inspiring, but I don’t read a whole lot. I want to write, constantly.

(It's a hard battle between the desire to read and the need to write.)

When did your writing dream become a published reality?
My first erotic romance was published in April 2013 J Truth be told, a m/m published by Evernight Publishing.

What was the hardest part of the publishing process for you?
Finding a publisher that is trust worthy I suppose. But my writing friends have helped me with that so much.

(It's so important to find a publisher you can have a partnership with.)

Do you have any inspirational words for aspiring writers?
If you love it as much as I do, then you will achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. Aim high, it’s the only way.

Can you pitch you current/upcoming release to us in ten words or less?
Two tiger shifter’s destined to be, and her wolf boyfriend.

(Ooo, I love shifters.)

Who is your favourite character in Fighting Destiny?
Probably Tommy, the wolf shifter. He’s just adorable. He’s Natalia’s boyfriend and he knows that Jeremy is Natalia’s destined-to-be-mate, and he has the courage to love them both.

(He must be very special to respect such a bond. And a complication.)

What’s next for Tamsin Baker?
Well, I’m currently working on another m/m, which will be released in about 6 weeks, which is beyond cool. I got a contract/release date before the book was finished. Then I have the sequel to Fighting Destiny coming out in September.

(How exciting! Best of luck!)

Are you reading a novel right now?
Yes, an awesome m/m called Aftermath: Guts and Glory. By Tyler Robbins.
http://www.evernightpublishing.com/aftermath-guts-and-glory-by-tyler-robbins/

If you had to write a warning to your readers about your novel, what would you say?
Warning to women readers: I have been warned that this story causes you to both cry and slide off your seat.

(Did you hear that ladies? Get your tissues ready!)

Now, this author runs on coffee and the occasional nip of whiskey. What refuel your writerly engines?
Baileys and milk and chocolate!

(I love baileys! Especially in my coffee hehe)

Now, for all writers, there’s something magical about creating a novel. What is your favourite part of creating a novel? Are you a Happily-Ever-After kind of writer, a cheeky black moment maker, or a first-sight-and-first-kiss kind of writer?
Happily Ever After writer- 100%!

(I do love a HEA :) )

Thank you so much Tamsin for joining me on the blog today. Might crack open a bottle of Baileys right now!
